Nightlife and Activities in San Pedro, Belize
If you want to see the best of Belize then you’ll have to make a stop in San Pedro. Located on the Northern Cayes, Belize’s greatest tourism draw, it boasts quick acess to the Belize Barrier Reef and Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
San Pedro town is in Belize’s largest island, Ambergis Caye. Whether you arrive by air or sea all incoming traffic lands in San Pedro.
Hol Chan Marine Reserve, the most popular dive and snorkel site in Belize, is four miles south of San Pedro. Shark Ray Alley, a nearby zone, is home to stingrays and nurse sharks for the more adventurous type.There are many activities available: diving, snorkeling, and sea trekking– to name a few. For a more relaxing time head over to Ramon’s Village Resort for the top swimming and sunbathing areas.
San Pedro is home to the best nightlife in the country, whether your idea of fun is dancing, barhopping, dining, or live music— it’s all here. For San Pedroanos the biggest nights out are Wednesday and Saturdays. Monday nights are popular for punta music. If you’re looking for something memorable, head over to the world famous “Chicken Drop.” Every Thursday night a local band plays on the beach and a large bingo board is set up on the sand. Patrons place bets on which number the chicken will poop on when it is placed on the board. Without a doubt this is an interesting game that has become part of the pop culture of San Pedro.
Also be sure to check for festivals on the island. San Pedro has about six festivals per year. One of the biggest and most unique is the San Pedro Holiday Boat Light Parade in December. Watch a beautiful display of illuminated boats make their way along the San Pedro shores.
San Pedro has some of the most delectable dining experiences. There are many barbecue places along the beach that will surely delight your senses. The Hidden Treasure Restaurant is an intimate open air restaurant under a romantic palapa roof. Expect succulent lobster and many other seafood delights at this establishment.
Keep in mind that golf carts are the main mode of transportation on Ambergis Caye. If you’re staying right in San Pedro, everything is walkable, although renting a golf cart might be fun for a day’s exploration!
